چکیده

The Benue Trough Basin (BTB) of Nigeria is geologically and geo-morphologically subdivided into upper, middle, lower segments. BTB the subject geological research due to its rich coal deposits that have potential for oil gas. purpose present study examine origins, depositional environments, thermal history selected coals processes influence their quality. Coal samples from different open cast mines in middle were examined using proximate ultimate, x-ray diffraction (XRD), fluorescence (XRF), laser ablation induced coupled plasma (LA-ICPMS), petrographical analyses. contained mainly quartz, kaolinite, organic carbon. XRD spectra peaks revealed triclinic monoclinic structure kaolin. SiO2/Al2O3 ratios confirmed dominance quartz kaolinite. Ni/Co versus V/Cr, Cu/Zn, V/Mo values studied suggest oxic whereas V/(Ni + V) V/(V Cr) indicate suboxic conditions. Ce/Ce∗ are slightly below 1, which indicates a environment. Maceral texture indicative transformations sub-bituminous high volatile C or B bituminous coal. maceral components mineral matter (≥10%) imply deposition planar margin mire, river system mire respectively. gelification index (GI) tissue preservation (TPI) peat accumulation developed within wet forest swamp. ternary diagram component suggests moor environment with intermittent moderate flooding episodes. sub-hydrous vitrinite inferring hydrogen-poor thermally immature characteristics. low V Ni contents, H/C O/C, Type Ⅲ terrestrial generate gaseous hydrocarbons. investigated deposited by telmatic, limnic, limno-telmatic zones environments. Overall, integrated petrologic geochemical data used this provides reliable approach assessment

Geological and Geochemical Features of Alborz Basin Coal Deposits, Iran

The Alborz coal basin is located in northern part of Iran. The coal deposits of Shahrood in eastern Alborz, Zirab in central Alborz and Abyek in western Alborz were studied as typical coalfields of the basin. Shemshak Formation which is the main coal-bearing sequence was formed during the Triassic-Jurassic in the basin. It consists of sandstone, siltstone, shale and claystone, which variedly al...

Assessment of Geothermal Potential of Parts of Middle Benue Trough, North-East Nigeria

This research deals with assessment of geothermal potential in parts of middle Benue Trough, north-east of Nigeria. The study area lies within the Longitude 9°E – 10°E and Latitude 8°N – 9.50°N with an estimated total area of 18,150 km2. Regional/Residual separation was performed on the total magnetic intensity using polynomial fitting. The residual map was divided into 14 overlappin...

Mineralogical Characteristics of Late Permian Coals from the Yueliangtian Coal Mine, Guizhou, Southwestern China

This paper reports the mineralogical compositions of super-low-sulfur (Yueliangtian 6-upper (YLT6U)) and high-sulfur (Yueliangtian 6-lower (YLT6L)) coals of the Late Permian No. 6 coal seam from the Yueliangtian coal mine, Guizhou, southwestern China. The mineral assemblages and morphology were detected and observed by X-ray diffractogram (XRD), optical microscopy and field-emission scanning el...

Preliminary Petrological Studies of Basement Rocks, Thar Coal Basin, Thar Parkar District, Sindh, Pakistan

The basement rocks encountered in exploratory boreholes drilled for exploration and evaluation of coal deposits in Thar Parkar district, Sindh Pakistan have formed the basis for present studies. The basement complex was penetrated through eighteen boreholes at drill depth range from 112 to 279 meters. These rocks were identified in field as Pink and Grey Granites.. The basement rocks are of Ign...
